Tips For Buying Desks For A School

Posted on: 29 May 2017

If you are a school administrator that is trying to decide the best type of new desk to buy for the students in your school district, you might be overwhelmed at the sheer number of options that you have. This can be frustrating because it can seem as though there is no way to choose the best desk and that it is purely up to luck. You also know that choosing a comfortable desk is important so that children are not distracted from their learning. Here are some tips for buying desks for your school so that your purchase is as effective as possible.

1. Make Sure That the Desks Have Enough Space

The first thing that you want to do is make sure that the desks have enough space for grade-appropriate work to be done. If you are buying desks for kids in first or second grade, you need to be sure that there is enough room for them to put their elbows on the table and hold the paper steady while they learn to ponderously write. If you are working with older students that might be using laptops in their day to day work, you want to be sure that the desks have enough room for a laptop and possibly a notebook for note taking. This will allow you to make sure that the students are not distracted by the lack of desk space.

2. Make Sure That the Desks Don't Make a Ton of Noise

Before you purchase a desk, be sure that you test it out yourself. Try to lean back in the chairs, squirm around in the seat, and move any parts that are able to move. Listen to see if there is any obnoxious squeaking or other obvious problems that would make the desks annoying for the teachers or a fun toy for the kids. You want the desks to be silent in order to avoid any distraction from the teacher's lesson.

3. Consider Wheels

If you are buying desks for a classroom that requires a lot of collaboration, consider getting desks that have wheels. This will allow students to more easily move their desks into groups and pair up with their peers for activities, which can make the learning process go a lot more smoothly.
